Bob Marley’s widow Rita once recalled her relationship with the late reggae legend, making a somewhat surprising revelation about the love he had for her.
The famous singer, who celebrates her 68th birthday today, said that despite Marley’s well-known reputation for embarking on numerous relationships with other women whilst married to her, the One Love hitmaker had a “jealous love” for her.
“A lot of people don’t realise that Bob really had a deep love for me,” recalled Rita, who sang alongside fellow singers Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt as part of Marley’s backing group The I-Threes.
“Marcia Griffiths and myself were talking about that recently; how no-one would believe the sort of jealous love Bob had for me. He didn’t want to see any other man look at me [laughs]! He was very jealous.”
In the exclusive interview that took place in 2012, Rita, who had three children – daughter Cedella and sons Ziggy and Stephen – with the reggae star added:
“That gave me an assurance that he really did deeply, dearly love me. And he still does because his spirit remains with me.”
